MARBEL at BEPA Brokerage Event

MARBEL at BEPA Brokerage Event

On November 28th, Violeta Vargas, researcher at Eurecat Technology Center, participated in the BEPA Brokerage Event held in Barcelona. During the event, Vargas delivered a presentation focused on the integration of the previously developed (and digitally protected) Design for Circularity (DfC) methodology into the framework of Safe and Sustainable Design (SSbD).

MARBEL project stands as a successful example of the application of this ecodesign methodology, showcasing its potential as a foundation for further advancements within the SSbD framework.

The presentation, titled as “Next-Gen Sustainable Batteries Under SSBD Framework” explored how the combination of the iterative and holistic nature of Design for Circularity (DfC) with the integrative approach of SSbD can unlock transformative potential for the development of next-generation batteries.

In addition to MARBEL’s presentation, Judith Sabata, researcher at Eurecat Technology Center, gave another talk on green solvents for improving lithium battery recycling, as part of her doctoral research under the framework of the FREE4LIB project. Sabata’s presentation focused specifically on the metal extraction stage within the hydrometallurgical recycling process developed at Eurecat and detailed a preliminary study to select the best extractant, its optimization in terms of recovery rate and energy efficiency, and the results obtained during this phase.

The BEPA Brokerage Event served as an excellent platform for the dissemination of cutting-edge research and development in sustainable battery technologies and recycling methodologies. It enabled meaningful exchanges between researchers, industry leaders, and policymakers while paving the way for transformative advancements for a greener future for electric mobility.
