Eurecat pitches MARBEL at the European Researchers’ Night
Sylvia Cruz, a researcher from Eurecat’s Metallic and Ceramic Materials Unit, has participated in the European Researchers’ Night events organized in the city of Barcelona on September 27, 2024, with the micro-talk “MARBEL: we’re not talking about superheroes, we’re talking about recycled aluminum for modular batteries in electric vehicles.”
The presentation included the results of Eurecat’s research work for the development of lightweight aluminum profiles with a high percentage of recycled materials. The resulting aluminum profiles are being used for the manufacturing of battery boxes for electric vehicles.
The research is part of the European project MARBEL, which is developing a new compact, modular, lightweight, high-performance battery pack with a longer lifespan, greater energy efficiency in charging and energy use, based on a robust and flexible BMS (Battery Management System), as well as ultra-fast charging and battery cooling.
The European Researchers’ Night is a public event dedicated to science outreach. Its goal is to bring research, innovation, and their key players closer to people of all ages in an accessible and fun way. This event is celebrated annually in over 300 cities across 30 European countries at the same time. In the previous edition, more than 200 activities took place across Catalonia, including talks, workshops, experiments, shows, and games.
