D9.4 Standardisation recommendations - Abstract
This deliverable presents the outcomes of the standardisation activities carried out in the MARBEL project under Task 9.2 Exploitation and standardisation. The aim of this task was to align the project’s innovations with current and emerging industry standards, which were focused on the development of a lightweight, modular, and competitive EV battery system.
To achieve this, MARBEL adopted the AIDIP methodology, a five-phase structured approach applied in several EU-funded projects. This methodology has guided the project from analysing the state of the art in standardisation to identifying needs and potentials, defining a standardisation strategy, implementing relevant activities, and finally promoting the resulting recommendations to relevant Technical Committees (TCs) and Working Groups (WGs).
Throughout the project, a combination of internal assessments, expert mentoring (via the Horizon Standardisation Booster), stakeholder consultations, and collaboration with the COLLABAT cluster has allowed the identification of five priority areas where MARBEL results can support or improve existing standards:
- Battery design and safety standards.
- Testing methods for performance and safety validation.
- Second-life and recyclability standards.
- AI-driven battery monitoring and interoperability.
- Environmental and life cycle assessment (LCA) standards.
The standardisation recommendations in this document have been structured to reflect technical relevance and alignment with ongoing international and European standardisation activities. Initial outreach to standardisation bodies has already been done to ensure MARBEL results contribute to the future of battery technology regulation and standardisation. Further engagement is expected beyond the end of the project through continued collaboration between MARBEL partners and relevant standardisation committees.
