D6.5 State of charge and discharge Report - Abstract
This deliverable summarizes the rapid evaluation process for determining the state of charge (SoC) and the state of health (SoH) of batteries undergoing dismantling. The objective is to establish a procedure for the safe handling of packs, modules, and cells.
The task involves the following key steps upon battery arrival for end-of-life management:
- Evaluation of total voltage before and after the Battery Management System (BMS) (if applicable to packs).
- Statistical assessment of module voltages provided safe access is allowed.
- State of charge estimation through a fast discharge process (a few seconds at a suitable C-rate), followed by analysis of the voltage recovery curve once the current is turned off. This method enables SoC evaluation without requiring a full discharge, as it relies on internal resistance and overvoltage characteristics to infer the battery’s condition.
