D6.5 State of charge and discharge Report - Abstract

This deliverable summarizes the rapid evaluation process for determining the state of charge (SoC) and the state of health (SoH) of batteries undergoing dismantling. The objective is to establish a procedure for the safe handling of packs, modules, and cells.
The task involves the following key steps upon battery arrival for end-of-life management:

  1. Evaluation of total voltage before and after the Battery Management System (BMS) (if applicable to packs).
  2. Statistical assessment of module voltages provided safe access is allowed.
  3. State of charge estimation through a fast discharge process (a few seconds at a suitable C-rate), followed by analysis of the voltage recovery curve once the current is turned off. This method enables SoC evaluation without requiring a full discharge, as it relies on internal resistance and overvoltage characteristics to infer the battery’s condition.
